Childhood Obesity: still a world nutritional epidemics

Rivista : Anno 40/Numero 1

Child and adolescent obesity have developed world wide since the late seventies. All countries around the world are virtually concerned by this pandemic. This includes developing countries. Therefore, a major lesson is that the natural history of nutrition does not follow a simple rule. Malnutrition of populations is not followed by normal nutritional status and then obesity. Instead malnutrition and obesity can coexist within a single population. Over nutrition can be induced by low poor quality diet. Obesity shows the excess of calories derived from fat or carbohydrates but does not exclude nutrient imbalance provided by poor quality diets.
